Enverus announced, in a statement sent to Rigzone recently, that it has released its latest rankings of the most active U.S. land drilling contractors and drilling customers, “providing a snapshot of market leadership based on the latest available drilling data”.
According to the complete Enverus list of top U.S. land drillers in the first quarter of 2026, by footage, which was accessed by Rigzone, Helmerich & Payne, Inc. took the top spot, with a total drilled measured depth of 15.8 million feet, a well count of 776, an average drill rate of 1,698 feet per day, and an average rig count of 134.
Patterson-UTI Drilling Company took second place in that list – with a total drilled measured depth of 9.5 million feet, 442 wells, an average drill rate of 1,568 feet per day, and an average rig count of 87 – Nabors Industries, Ltd. was third – with a total drilled measured depth of 6.5 million feet, 331 wells, an average drill rate of 1,629 feet per day, and an average rig count of 66 – Ensign Energy Services, Inc. came in fourth – with a total drilled measured depth of 4.2 million feet, 257 wells, an average drill rate of 1,793 feet per day, and an average rig count of 37 – and Precision Drilling Corporation ranked fifth, with a total drilled measured depth of 3.8 million feet, 205 wells, an average drill rate of 2,082 feet per day, and an average rig count of 33.
Enverus announced that it has released its latest rankings of the most active U.S. land drilling contractors and drilling customers.
According to the complete Enverus list of top U.S. land drilling customers in the first quarter of this year, by footage, which was also accessed by Rigzone, Exxon ranked first, with a total drilled measured depth of 5.4 million feet, a well count of 229, an average drill rate of 1,836 feet per day, and an average rig count of 36.
EOG came in second place on that list – with a total drilled measured depth of 3.3 million feet, 161 wells, an average drill rate of 1,923 feet per day, and an average rig count of 25 -Devon ranked third – with a total drilled measured depth of 3.29 million feet, 161 wells, an average drill rate of 1,472 feet per day, and an average rig count of 32 – Occidental was fourth – with a total drilled measured depth of 3.27 million feet, 183 wells, an average drill rate of 2,074 feet per day, and an average rig count of 22 – and ConocoPhillips ranked fifth, with a total measured depth of 2.5 million feet, 144 wells, an average drill rate of 1,673 feet per day, and an average rig count of 27.
Rigzone asked Helmerich & Payne (H&P) and Exxon for comment on the Enverus rankings. At the time of writing, neither has responded to Rigzone.
In its statement, Enverus highlighted that its rankings use activity from the first quarter of 2026 to compare contractors and operators across total drilled measured depth, well count, average drilling rate, average measured depth, average lateral length, and average rig count. The company also noted in the statement that, because oil and gas activity data can lag field operations and public reporting, the results represent a point-in-time view and are subject to change as additional information is reported.
“These rankings continue to offer a practical benchmark for understanding how leading drilling contractors and operators are performing across activity, execution, and well design,” Mark Chapman, principal analyst, OFS, at Enverus Intelligence Research, said in the statement.
“Drilled footage is an important measure of market activity, but the broader dataset adds context around drilling pace, well design, and rig utilization,” he added.
“These rankings give the industry a consistent way to benchmark activity across leading contractors and operators while accounting for the reporting lags that are part of oil and gas data,” he continued.
Lucas Gjovig, CEO of GO Wireline, an Enverus customer, said in the statement, “technology and data are so vital for strategic decisions”.
“There’s a difference in quality out in the market, so we had to go to where the best information is,” he added.
“Enverus is a leader in market information and data and analytics, and they help particularly in the completions market, tracking what oilfield customers are doing, giving us insights, especially in basins that we want to evaluate and potentially deploy capital,” he continued.

Enverus’ list of ‘Top U.S. Land Drillers of 1Q25 by Footage’, which was accessed by Rigzone last year, revealed that Helmerich & Payne, Inc. took the top spot, with a total drilled measured depth of 16.4 million feet, a well count of 859, and an average rig count of 146.
Patterson-UTI Drilling Company took second place in this list – with a total drilled measured depth of 10.7 million feet, 540 wells, and an average rig count of 98 – Nabors Industries, Ltd. was third – with a total drilled measured depth of 7.1 million feet, 366 wells, and an average rig count of 60 – Ensign Energy Services, Inc. came in fourth – with a total drilled measured depth of 3.4 million feet, 206 wells, and an average rig count of 33 – and Precision Drilling Corporation ranked fifth – with a total drilled measured depth of 3.2 million feet, 180 wells and an average rig count of 28.
According to the complete Enverus list of ‘Top U.S. Land Drilling Customers of 1Q25 by Footage’, which was also accessed by Rigzone last year, Exxon ranked first, with a total drilled measured depth of 5.0 million feet, a well count of 225, and an average rig count of 36.
EOG came in second place on that list – with a total drilled measured depth of 3.5 million feet, 167 wells, and an average rig count of 24 – ConocoPhillips ranked third – with a total drilled measured depth of 3.4 million feet, 184 wells, and an average rig count of 32 – Occidental was fourth – with a total drilled measured depth of 3.2 million feet, 196 wells, and an average rig count of 27 – and Chevron ranked fifth, with a total measured depth of 2.6 million feet, 143 wells, and an average rig count of 17.
In a release sent to Rigzone back in 2024, Enverus announced that it had published its inaugural “top U.S. drillers and customer rankings”.

Patterson-UTI Drilling Company took second place in that list, with a total drilled measured depth of 9.40 million feet and 544 wells, Nabors Industries, Ltd. was third, with a total drilled measured depth of 7.44 million feet and 422 wells, Ensign Energy Services, Inc. came in fourth, with a total drilled measured depth of 3.90 million feet and 217 wells, and Precision Drilling Corporation ranked fifth, with a total drilled measured depth of 3.38 million feet and 198 wells.
According to the complete Enverus list of top U.S. land drilling customers of the first quarter of 2024, by footage, which was also accessed by Rigzone at the time, Exxon ranked first, with a total drilled measured depth of 4.23 million feet and a well count of 220.
EOG came in second place on that list, with a total drilled measured depth of 4.01 million feet and 214 wells, ConocoPhillips ranked third, with a total drilled measured depth of 2.93 million feet and 153 wells, Occidental was fourth, with a total drilled measured depth of 2.38 million feet and 142 wells, and Devon ranked fifth, with a total measured depth of 1.82 million feet and 90 wells.
